For traditional Fortran 77 programs,
Compaq
Fortran employs all of the optimizations that have been developed over 30 years of experience with traditional Fortran compilers. In addition, the
Compaq Fortran compiler optimizes array constructs and, when HPF directives are added by the user, generates network-parallel codes that are often more efficient than their well-tuned PVM (a popular message-passing library) equivalents. These codes also run efficiently in parallel on
Compaq SMP multiprocessor platforms.
