DCU-O-0100 Introduction to OpenVMS

Course Description

This course is designed to provide the student who will manage OpenVMS system and network, the skills necessary to perform basic tasks on an OpenVMS system.

Pre-requisites

The student taking this course should a have a very basic understanding of computer concepts.

Agenda

To successfully carry out the tasks involved in being system user, a student will learn to:

Perform basic OpenVMS tasks that allow a user to create, store organize, and manipulate files and directories. Such tasks include:
Gaining and terminating access to a computer system
Instructing the system to perform tasks
Creating text files
Customizing the work environment to reflect specific site needs.
Logging in and out of OpenVMS system
Issuing DCL commands
Starting the editor to create a text file
Using symbols and logical names to customize the OpenVMS environment
Writing a simple login command procedure
Initializing disk and tape volumes
Performing image backups of disk volumes
Controlling and monitoring queues
Adding and removing users
Starting and stopping the system
