DCU-O-0102 OpenVMS Utilities and Commands

Course Description

This course teaches the student the advanced features of the OpenVMS system. Topics include advanced features of the EDIT text editor, the use of libraries, ordering and managing files, advanced techniques used in command procedures, access control lists to enhance system security, the use of logical names and symbols.

Pre-requisites

Students taking this course should be able to use on-line printed documentation, understand the basic hardware and software components.

Agenda

Student will learn:

The components of a process and how they are managed by the OpenVMS operating system
Advanced DCL functions, the use of lexical functions
Write commands that involve, I/O to a file, error handling, looping, nesting procedures, and subroutines
Advanced EDIT editing techniques
Creation and use of alternate logical name tables
Implementation and use search lists
Use help libraries
Use security for protecting files and directories
When and how to use: SORT, MERGE, SEARCH, AND DIFFERENCES

The course will offer a discussion period where student can exchange ideas.
